Lidl shopper gets trolled after complaining the price of bottled water has jumped from 17p to 24p

An angry Lidl customer has made a scene online after seeing the price of bottled water leap up at the budget supermarket. Inflation has now hit a record high in the UK, and food and fuel prices have continued to soar week on week. But this shopper was still shocked to see the supermarket charging a shocking 7p more than the previous week for bottled water.

Posting a picture of the rows of Still Spring Water in their local Lidl on Facebook, the shopper told other Lidl-lovers: "Last week 17p. This week 24p." The worried shopper then pointed out the amount "doesn't sound like much" but is actually a whopping "41% increase" from the previous week.

However, it quickly became clear that other Lidl shoppers were less than sympathetic about his complaint. Although other people had also noticed the sharp spark in price, they simply couldn't comprehend why he was buying bottled water in the UK, particularly if he was on a tight budget.

"If only there was drinkable water from the tap at home," wrote one sarcastic Lidl fan, adding: "I'm so sick of using it to just flush my toilet, wash myself and clean the dishes. Just imagine if I could drink it??" Someone else chipped in: "I’ve got a tap…it’s almost free! Get one fitted…it’s a godsend…"

A third troll also pointed out it would be "a damned sight cheaper to get it from a tap in the kitchen," and a fourth offered: "I don’t get the point of buying water as it comes from a tap." They advised: "I buy squash to disguise the taste." Another commenter's post was dripping with sarcasm as they mocked sympathy, saying: "Oh dear we will dehydrate."

The comments eventually got so out of hand that a moderator actually had to step in, telling everyone on the thread: "Please can we stop the bickering about 'tap water' I'd quite like to go to sleep at some point this evening!"

Some shoppers stepped in to defend Lidl, however, with one person pointing out: "Even at 24p it compares favourably with alternatives on offer Maybe they've just realised they have been selling it too cheap for to long," and another adding, "Price of plastic has gone up the same as fuel! The bottle is more valuable than the water."
