Following the confirmation about her breakup with Sherman Douglas, “The Real Housewives of Potomac” star Gizelle Bryant is giving more insight as to what went wrong.
On the Sunday, June 10 episode of the Bravo reality TV series, Bryant told Ashley Darby that she and Douglas are over.
“Sherman and I are done,” Bryant says at the 8:26 mark after Darby tells her she hasn’t seen Sherman in months. “A yellow flag was that he didn’t bring me to my party and I said, ‘I want somebody here to ride this ride with me’ and that conversation went left.”
Bryant further explained that Douglas, by contrast, felt he was giving his girlfriend his full support, but the socialite said he shouldn’t be able to decide when he supports her and when he doesn’t.
“I’ve worked very had to be a strong, independent woman,” she says in a confessional interview. “So it’s very discouraging to see that he doesn’t want to do whatever it takes to make this relationship work.”
While she acknowledged to Darby that the relationship won’t be perfect, Bryant said there are fundamentals that she cannot compromise on.
Since Darby saw that Bryant was hurting over the breakup, she decided to keep quiet about Douglas’ “Park After Dark” incident. According to actress and fellow RHOP star Monique Samuels, years ago — when the former basketball player was with his ex-wife — Douglas was arrested after being caught in the park paying for sexual favors with a woman.
But while Darby sees Bryant’s hurt over the end of her one-year relationship, the newly single woman isn’t sitting out of the dating life. She disclosed on last week’s episode that she’s seeing someone else, but things are still casual.
Yet she acknowledged that she wanted to work for her and Douglas for the sake of her daughters.
“My daughters were sad. And it made me really kind of want to work at the relationship harder than I would normally. Because normally, I’m like the Breakup Queen,” said Bryant, who also noted Douglas said he wanted counseling to see if the relationship is worth fighting for. “So knowing that my girls loved Sherman, I really wanted to work on it a little harder. But it’s a good lesson for children to know sometimes it doesn’t work out and you move on, and hopefully, they’ll like the next guy.”
