Hello, my little bumblebees,
Litha, also known as the summer solstice, is known as the longest day of the year and the shortest night. It happens between June 20th to June 22nd every year in the Northern Hemisphere and December 20th to 22nd in the Southern Hemisphere. Today, I’ll be sharing what the Summer Solstice is and 7 EASY ways to celebrate this modern witches holiday.
If you haven’t already, definitely check out my FREE Book of Shadows Guide + Bonus Sabbat Guide. It includes bonus rituals, Tarot spreads, recorded meditations and more for each of the eight sabbats.
Be up nice and early to watch the sun god come and greet the day. You can even do some sun salutations, yoga or other meditative and body stretch practices.
Adorn your altar with images and symbols of summer. A few of the solar gods you may want to add to your altar are Ra, Apollo and Amaterasu, to name a few. Use orange, red, old and yellow; anything vibrant and bright in this colour family. I love using sunflowers and bee symbols.
I recommend you do this for every single sabbat. It’s a great way to reflect on what’s happening in your area in the nature around you. What has changed? What can you see happening? The more you can connect with the changes in the natural world, the more you’re in tune with its flow and energy.
Be careful when picking wildflowers; you don’t want to be doing this in a spot that you shouldn’t. Always research ahead of time. You can also grab flowers from a shop as a safe bet. It’s a wonderful thing to wear if you’ll be having a solstice celebration. You can use daisies, sunflowers, lavender, rose and lilies. If you have any extra flowers leftover, you can make a floral besom.
Faery, luck, prosperity and fertility magic are very potent around this time. It’s also a wonderful time for healing, courage and energy.
Tea, Tarot and lots of yummy treats. You can’t go wrong. Great summers foods to include are all fresh berries and seasonal fruits. Anything with lemon and honey is perfect!!
A bonfire on the beach or a small fire in a cauldron is perfect for this time. Make sure you check your permits as it’s not always legal for you to burn. Always check before you light anything up. Add lavender, cinnamon, lemon, orange, sage, myrrh, lily, rose, sunflower and daisy to your fire.
Spend as much time as you can outdoors celebrating the sun god. The sun will be sharing its most active and potent energetic power.
